General Membership Meeting

October 3, 2012

3:30 p.m. in the Auditorium

Dale Miller called the meeting to order at 3:30 p.m.

A moment of silence was held for our members or spouses of members who died since our last meeting.

Minutes of the March 7, 2012 General Meeting as emailed:  Dale asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes.  Deena Warren said that on Max Warren’s 2.5 team there were five people who moved up, not two.  Jerry Pointer moved to accept the minutes as corrected.  Bill Smaha seconded the motion and it carried.

Treasurer’s Report:  Cindy Geiser distributed the proposed budget.  Dale went over the proposed budget, explaining the increases in some budget items.  There is almost $17,000 left in account.  Ray Derouin moved to accept the 2012-2013 budget.  DeMaris Hochhalter seconded the motion.  Discussion was held.  The motion passed.

Cindy also said that the collection of dues was moving along.  She will collect the dues this year instead of the team captains.  Dues are $20/person.

New Tennis Courts Update:  Dale Miller gave a report on the new tennis courts and reported that all equipment ordered for all twelve courts has been delivered.  There is now a new 7-ft. aluminum bench at each of the twelve courts as well as two “old” benches.  Dale and Doug Korver ordered all the equipment to outfit the new courts (windscreens, ball machine, numbers, trash cans, benches, etc.) last spring, as well as new windscreens and benches for the old courts.  When everything is installed, we will have twelve well-outfitted courts.

New Business

New Sign-Up Procedure:  Discussion was held on the new sign-up procedure that Terry Garrett created.  Terry indicates that 104 people are using the new procedure.  For now there will be a separate hand-written sign-up sheet in each ballroom to check out a ball machine.  It was suggested that if a member (or non-member) doesn’t have a computer or smart phone they might access the computer in the library to sign up for a court.  Also, for now couples with the same email address can sign up for two slots, one time for each spouse.  Dale Miller said he would appoint a committee to look into the new sign-up procedures.

75+ League:  Members 75 years of age and older have requested to use four courts every other Saturday from 9-noon for their Super Stars League, which is an EVSTL program.  Dick Recknor has volunteered to chair.  The league starts the week of November 5.  Dwayne Moon moved that the Club sponsor this program.  Ray Derouin seconded the motion.  Discussion was held.  The motion passed.

Playing one match in year to maintain ranking:  Discussion was held on the pros and cons of having to play one league match in a year to maintain ranking.  John Berger moved to table this discussion until the next meeting in November.  Joe Ricci seconded the motion and it passed.

Update for Recreational Tennis:  Presently we have forty men and thirty-plus women signed up to play RT.  The EC is working on a schedule, but they will get two mornings (3 hours) and two afternoons (3 hours) each week on the new courts.

Charitable Contributions:  Di Schultz said that last year the Club donated $500 to La Mesita and $275 to the Genesis Project.  She asked members to call or email her or Carol Korver for suggestions for this year’s donations.  We will vote at the November meeting.  Di also indicated that the Genesis Project needs old tennis bags or other bags, socks, underwear, food containers, etc.  Di will be happy to take anything to them but “garbage.”  There is also a container at the old courts for used tennis shoes.

Social Committee:  The Closing Social is scheduled for March 31, which is Easter Sunday.  It will need to be changed.  Dale volunteered to check the availability of the Auditorium for other dates.

Comments from the Floor

Gene Lutter, Bingo.  Gene said Bingo has been going for seven years and has given lots of money away to various clubs, including $7500 to the Tennis Cub.  He said they are in need of volunteers each Thursday to help set up the auditorium, take it down, sell tickets, etc.  Volunteers can work as little as one-half hour per week.  Please contact Gene if interested.

Bob Wolf announced the first Softball Pancake Breakfast is December 8 and he will be selling tickets!

New members were introduced and welcomed.

Volunteers are needed to serve as the Club Historian, and Nominating Committee.  Let Dale know if you’re interested in serving on either of these committees.

The meeting was adjourned at 4:30.
