New Business

Vice-pres. Mark Burright has resigned.  Terry Garrett volunteered to fill the position.  The Exec. Board has approved this change of officers.

Duane Moon reported that there will be a scorekeeper class Thurs., Nov. 6 at the North courts and asked that everyone consider becoming scorekeepers.

Dale Miller informed us that he is on the golf course committee that is checking on the feasibility of the course after SSV is built out and Farnsworth is gone.  Keeping the course under control of SSV residents is in the best interests of the community.  The meetings are open and Dale encouraged anyone interested to attend.  The committee meets Thurs. at 10:00 in the San Tan room.

Dee Brosowske reported on the EVSTL meeting that she and Diane Thompson attended.  There is a proposal to allow the borrowing of non 4.0 players  from another club (VDO) on a weekly basis so that a club (SVE) would have enough 3.5 women for a second team as they have many men but only a few women at that level.  The EVSTL approved this on a trial basis for 2 months.  The Pres. of the EVSTL needs to have the power to do this and thus needed to change a by-law to read “to temporarily suspend a by-law or “part of a by-law” requires the approval of the league president.”  Discussion on this followed.  A hand vote of our club approved this.  Another change approved by the EVSTL is that each club shall submit stats for position one play of all players who have played position one in at least 4 matches.  The EVSTL has an advisory committee to the Pres. of which Diane Thompson is a member.

An audit of the treasure’s books has been done by Di Schultz, Cortez Hake, and Rich Meyer.

Ray Pfleger informed the club of the 75+ group that plays on Saturdays.  It is a separate league made up of 6 men and 4 women each week.  The age of 75 can be met anytime during the season.  Ray asked members to sign up if interested in playing.

Barb Pointer thanked the 3.5 players for the wonderful Welcome Back Party.  The next social event will be the Roadhaven Invitational on Dec. 6 at the South Courts.  The 3.0 players will be hosting and everyone is encouraged to sign up on the North Court bulletin board sheets by Friday, Nov. 29.  Tickets for lunch are $5.00 which also pays for a Roadhaven player.   Barb also brought lost and found items from last year.  Any items not claimed will be donated to the Genesis Project.  Barb also has league shirts for sale.

Di Schultz informed us on the Genesis Project and the LaMesita Homeless Shelter that we support.  They are especially in need of plastic tablecloths, shoes, socks, coats etc. for colder weather.  Dee Brosowske moved and Cindy Geiser seconded a motion to split the $1000 budget equally between the two charities.  Motion passed.

Pres. Diane has created a Challenge Policy committee of Joe Ricci, Don Schultz, Dennis Brosowske, Sheila Mason, and Sally Wogen to look into the challenge policy.

Marilyn Catalano, Rich Hunt, and Jerry Pointer were selected for the nominating committee.  Dale Miller moved and Linda Miller seconded a motion to approve these committee appointees.  Motion passed.

Sue Briggs reported for the tournament committee of Ray Wiebe, Donna Dale, Linda Miller, and herself.  She also acknowledged the other members of the various committees that were present.  She and Dale Miller reminded everyone to check the expiration date on their food handlers cards to make sure they are current for the tournament.  The committee will meet with the Exec. Board after the meeting.

1.5 captain Don Dalton reported that there were sixteen 1.5 players at the first practice.  There will be no league play for them until January.  Instead there will be “open play” hosted by various clubs for all players on Thursday mornings.  He also mentioned that he is in need of a co-capt. and asked that anyone interested, contact him.

Terry Garrett reminded everyone that one can only sign up for 1 court, play, then sign up again.  League play 2.0-4.0 have 6 courts until noon and 2 courts until 1:00.  Captains are to inform Terry if they do not need all 6 courts so he can release them for play.

Bob Wolf announced that the softball club will host a pancake breakfast on Dec. 6

Jennifer Wittick will post the sign up sheets for the SVE Mixed Holiday Tournament Jan. 1,2,3, 2015.  The club will host playoffs as needed.

Martha Cooper moved and Mary Branson seconded a motion to adjourn the meeting.  The meeting was adjourned at 4:26.

Respectfully submitted,

Mary Boyack, Sec.

The tournament committee met with the Exec. Board at 4:30.  They reported that the format will be the same except the brackets will be limited to two per level and one for the 1.5 level.  Play will start at 8:00 instead of 7:00 and the South courts will be used most mornings while the North courts will be used all day.  Registration will be for 2 days only but the scorekeeping table will be manned all the time.  The Tournament committee will be meeting often with all the chairmen of their various committees.
