General Meeting SSV Tennis Club
Thursday March 6,2014
Pres. Ron Peterson called the meeting to order at 3:17. All Exec. Board members were present.
Dee Brosowski moved and Linda Miller seconded a motion that the secretary’s report of Feb. 6 be approved as emailed. Motion passed.
Cindy Geiser reported that there are 316 paid members.
Terry Garrett reported that the entries are coming in for the SSV tournament. There are 39 SSV teams entered and in general about $10,000 in entry fees overall. Set up will be at 7:00am Saturday, March 14. Dale Miller asked for help with the hot dogs for the car show lunch. We are to keep checking the snack shack schedule for workers as it is changing. Also the tournament brackets are on the SSV website.
Diane Thompson reported that there were 34 challenges this year. A big thanks goes to the committee and the players who helped with them.
Pres. Ron reported that the south court snack shack roller shield is going in on the 14th. He is taking the request for redoing courts 1 and 2 to the recreation committee and it looks favorable. It will then go to the advisory committee. If passed, work would begin in April or May and take about 60 days. Courts 3-6 should also be painted to match courts 1 and 2. Jerry Pointer moved and Bob Wolfe seconded a motion that the club contribute $1000 toward the painting of courts 4-6. Motion passed.
Cindy G. presented the budget for next season. Don Wogen moved and Wayne Hall seconded a motion that we approve the budget as presented. Motion passed.
Captains meeting will be Thurs. March 13, at 3:30 in the San Tan Room. Where voting is needed to select captains, it will be done by email.
Team selection will take place Wed. March 26, at 3:30 in the San Tan Room.
Tournament reports--SVE Barta Berger reported 20 teams are involved from SSV. Cathy Idso said there are 5 eight person teams in the Monta Vista tournament.
Jennifer Wittick is our representative for the Venture Out tourney next fall.
Barb Pointer reported for the Social Committee. The end of the year party will be March 30 at 4:30 with supper at 5:30 in the auditorium. This “Fiesta Finale” will cost $5.00 and tickets will be available in the activities office from March 13-26. The 1.5 and 2.0 teams will host. Bring your own tableware. The tennis schedule for next season is:
Nov. 2 Welcome Back Party by 3.5 team
Dec. 6 Roadhaven Inv. By 3.0 team
Dec 13 Holiday Fun Day and Food Drive by Social Comm.
Jan. 24 In Park Mixed Doubles (chili feed) by Social Comm.
Feb.7 Inv. with Monte Vista by 2.5 team
March 29 End of Year party by 4.0 team
Barb also announced that league shirts ordered now will be ready by next fall.
Carol Reiger will again be the Sunshine Lady.
Joe Fusaro won the drawing for a free tennis lesson donated by Bob Wolfe.
Historian is Al Schaffer.
Tiling in the south court snack shack is in progress.
It was asked that we not use tape on the tennis courts.
Buffy let us know that the tree trimming around the north courts will be done by tournament time.
Scorekeeping sheets for our tournament are posted at the north courts. Please sign up if you can help.
Comments from the Floor
John Berger gave a thought about eliminating our tournament and raising dues to cover it. Discussion followed. No action was taken .
Dee B. expressed her thoughts that the challenge criteria needs to be tougher or that we have no challenges. This was postponed until next fall.
Don Wogen expressed thanks to Pres. Ron for his leadership and hard work as President this year. Ron received a standing ovation and expressed his thanks for a good year to the Board and the club members.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:03.
