General Meeting SSV Tennis Club

Pres. Diane Thompson called the meeting to order at 3:30. All Exec. Board members were present.
Marilyn Catalano moved and Ron Peterson seconded a motion to accept the secretary’s minutes of Dec. 3, 2014 as emailed. Motion passed.
Cindy Geiser handed out the treasurer’s report. There are 309 paid members.
Terry Garrett reported on the foot fault issue. The foot fault rules are posted on the North court bulletin board. The EC Board feels that we should be kind, enjoy the game, and have fun and not get too caught up in this issue.
We had 3 finalists in the SVE Holiday tournament. Jennifer Wittick reported that 7.5 champions were Marcia and Roger Stein, with Pat Koskinen and Roy Lyonnais taking the runner up medal for the 5.5 bracket, and Joe Ricci and Jennifer Wittick winning the 8.0 consolation championship.
A summary of the ideas for club lessons was given by Terry G. It was felt that we should focus on the 1.5, 2.0, and 2.5 levels. Merle Bryan is to put together a package for this season. We will then revisit it for next year, next month.
Wayne Hall reported for the use of funds committee. Two ball sweeps and two ball baskets were purchased for the North courts. Two heaters were also purchased and Dale Miller and Roger Stein have been installing them in the two snack shacks. The committee is getting more bids for the cement work near South court #12. Wayne moved and Linda Miller seconded a motion to purchase new bulletin boards for the North courts at a cost of $2495.82. Motion passed.
Sue Briggs said they had met with Craig Ahlstrom and felt that it was a positive meeting. He will be looking into a shuttle for the tournament and gifts for the participants.
Dale Miller gave us an update on the golf course feasibility committee findings. He also said the Advisory committee has approved an new PA system for the auditorium. He then explained the operation of the heaters in the snack shacks. Jerry Pointer moved and Dee Brosowske seconded a motion to give $500. to help pay for the consultant for the golf course. Motion passed.
The nominating committee of Jerry Pointer, Marilyn Catalano, and Rich Hunt presented the slate of officers to be voted upon at the next general meeting. They are as follows:

Dee Brosowske moved and Diane Thompson seconded a motion that our club follow the EVSTL policy for move up. (The policy is posted on the club website). Questions were then answered. A ballot vote was taken. Result was 49 yes and 55 no. Motion failed.
Joe Ricci, reporting for the Challenge committee, then presented the committee’s policy. Discussion followed. Don Wogen moved and Craig Smith seconded a motion to change the word “line” to “court” to clarify. Motion passed. A ballot vote was then taken to accept or reject the new challenge policy. Results were yes 99 and no 5. Motion passed. The policy will go into effect as of this meeting date (1-7-2015).
Barb Pointer informed us of the Chili Feed to be held Jan. 24 at the South courts. It will be a mixed doubles/mixed level fun day. Sign up for the food and play is at the North courts. The Monte Vista Invitational will be held Feb. 7 with the 2.5’s in charge. Sign up sheets will be posted at the North courts. $5.00 per player will be assessed.
Terry G. commented that we have a good club. There have been 4 placement sessions with 3 players passing. He thanked the players who helped with these placements. Terry also reported that the club has won 50% of our matches and the 2.0’s have won 71% of their matches. 16 people are on the edge of getting their stats and one has achieved this.
Diane T. thanked all the members who helped with the SVE tournament matches that were held at SSV. She also expressed our thanks to the challenge committee for their work.
Bob Wolf announced the softball pancake breakfast to be held this Saturday Jan. 10th.
Sheila Mason moved and Dick Branson seconded a motion to adjourn. The meeting was adjourned at 4:25.
